It’s August and music lovers again gather in Kilifi under the banner of unity to celebrate African electronic music. The third edition of Journey to the Baobabs, a captivating Afro‑House and Afro‑Tech festival held at Beneath the Baobabs, is here. The two-night curated event of DJs from The Coast, Nairobi and South Africa playing a blend of Afro-House, Afro-Tech and 3-Step lights up Kilifi on 16th and 17th August.

Let me guide you through the journey:
-
The Journey to the Baobabs Venue
Beneath the Baobabs is undoubtedly East Africa’s most unique destination venue for music, arts, community and culture. Overlooking the Takaungu Creek, Beneath the Baobabs is built around ancient Baobab trees and is with the utmost respect for the environment. No metal fences, concrete or big-city noise!
The venue can host up to 10,000 people. You can expect state of the art sound and lighting, spectacular views over the treetops, and an immersive experience during Journey to the Baobabs.

How to get there and where to stay
You can take a direct bus from Nairobi to Kilifi. Bus tickets range from Ksh 1,800 to Ksh 2,500, and options include Buscar, Mash Bus, Dreamline, and Tahmeed Bus. The SGR train to Mombasa then a shuttle to Kilifi is also a good alternative.
If you don’t want to spend a lot of time on the road, take a flight to Mombasa or Malindi then shuttle to Kilifi. It’s an hour’s drive from either airport.
Here are the directions to Beneath the Baobabs once you arrive in Kilifi.
For accommodation, you can get onsite accommodation at Beneath the Baobabs cottages. They also have four safari style tents fitted out with comfortable double beds and fans if you’re looking for an unmatched outdoors experience.
